My dog has left the building

February 20, 2010

Duece-RIPwp
Last night, my man, Duece was called up by the doggy gods. It was unexpected, as it happened in a span of 45 minutes, but fortunately my wife and I were there with him. I’m not going into details as I don’t think I could bear to write them out and have them forever floating in the Google Cloud. But, we had our chance to say good bye and tell him what a joy it was to have him everyday of our lives the past 10 years. We held him as he took his last breath and watched his wide eyes and bulging rib-cage settle into a state of stillness. This was my first dog, so I’m hoping this is the worst it’s going to get. I have an 8 y/o female American Bulldog that I have to stay chipper and strong for so I don’t bring her down with me.
My question is for you peeps that read this blog and have lost a pet. What are some coping mechanisms to help the other pet who has never known life without the other. She is my biggest concern right now and I really have no idea how to handle her besides just being there, not leaving her alone for long periods, and keeping her active. Any advice?

Thanks for reading this off-topic post.

Dan Black – Symphonies Video

February 19, 2010

http://www.vimeo.com/9488687The new Dan Black album came out and its a space hop mashup. We are feeling it…for the moment. A review of the album is not the reason for this post those. But if you haven’ heard of Dan Black, or you’re sleeping on his new album, then definitely check it out.

So, we loves us this video! It’s an After Effect heaven of goodness raining chocolate covered skittles on our thinning hair as we taste the rainbow of Mr. Dan Black. It’s a tribute to pop culture of the past. It’s fast. It’s fun. It’s fresh. Peep it and let us know if you can cite any of these scenes he’s referencing in the video.

Peace.

Moullinex – Lover in Me

February 12, 2010

trashMoullinex definitely takes out the trash on this one. It’s a chopped masterpiece with a nu disco feel to it. We would venture to say that Moullinex and Phonat on shaping the way current sample based dance music is sounding. It stutters, it jags, it moves, and it grooves. Their approach seems random, but in fact it’s a controlled chaos. Don’t believe us? Peep the videos below. Also, take a listen and let us know what you think.

Street1HBO may be back from the premium channel dumps with its new show How to make it in America. I had never heard of it until a friend (thanks, Nick!) sent it over, solely based on the fact that some of the music featured on this site also featured in the show. Well, we just watch the first episode here and we think the show is dope. Forget the L.A. lifestyle of entourage, and the Upper East side panache of Samantha and the girls, this show is all downtown! It’s got art, it’s got grit, it’s got hustle, it’s got street, and it’s got music (with cred0. It’s a bit too early to comment on the show as we have only watched the first episode tonight, but we think this show has massive potential and appeal to not only NYCity dwellers, but to anyone who has been confronted with the decision of whether or not to chase their dreams, or to let them fall by the waste side and decide to grow up and ‘get a real job’. It’s a question we tear down and weigh everyday. We think that’s going to be the underlying, universal question of this show based on the first episode, with all the usual quarrels, violence and sex that make any television show successful. But most of all, it’s an escape for 30 minutes. And everyone can use an escape once a week. The question is whether or not you’ll want to spend yours with a few hoodlums trying to flip a quick buck in their search for their golden ticket out of Queens.

Cheers to HBO for this one. Also, check out the facebook mixtape put together by Kid Cudi, DJ Green Lantern, and Broke Mogul here. As always let us know if you agree, or you think it’s just another hipster fad that won’t make it past the first season.

planeRandom Streaming Thoughts: We’ve got a few treats today. Fred Falke remixing Grizzly Bear, and the Swede wonder Odahl—need we say more? We could be seen rocking these two jams on repeat this morning near Columbus Circle in NYC. We were stopping traffic on Broadway, losing ourselves and dancing in the street. Not really, but we wished we were when we were watching the sunrise while trapped in a bookstore. Why do we refer to ourselves (just one person) in the plural—we, ourselves? Let us (Damn! We did it again) know what you think.

PigeonsWhy I typed the title in all CAPS, I have no idea. Maybe it was a Freudian slip. Maybe it was a sudden case of Napoleon Complex. Either way I have no idea, nor do I care.

So I was shelving books today at my job (yes, there is a job for that). Anyways, the song came on and I was suddenly transported to warmer weather. Needless to say, it’s as cold as a witch’s titty here in NYC and this song did the inner voice in my head some good. Enjoy folks!

Wu vs. The Beatles Mashup

January 30, 2010

NYCstreetThanks to The Heart Attack Club for the heads up on this one. I’m not going to repeat everything they said about it, but the gist is we now have a British Danger mouse in Tom Caruna, a music teacher (well, we repeated it anyways. Damnit!). Let me say, the album is hot. It’s reminds me of how hip hop used to, or should sound—the dirty drums, chopped up samples, and lyrics that actually mean something more than where the next drink, dollar, or piece of ass is coming from (Thanks pop-world-post-millennium, and all you jellybean producers ;-) . To clarify things, we’re not against progression at all. We understand pop culture changes, and in return is reflected in music. But we are against meaningless bullshit. Anyways, enough of our B.S., the album is free to download. Let us know what you think.

It’s about the groove…

January 20, 2010

GroundZero-2For me, what makes a track is the groove. If I can feel my chest twitching, my shoulders bouncing, or my head nodding, then I know I’m onto something. Today’s tracks do just that for me. They groove, they shuffle, and they move. I would venture to say the ‘stiffest’ track in the bunch is the reboot track, but give it a listen and let us know what you think. At least give it until the sampled song drops (you’ll know when the guitar and folk singer kick in) and the beat drops back in. That’s where the groove is for us. The rest need no qualifiers. Ciao.
